Blixt Tweed: Heritage Meets the American West

Blixt Tweed: Heritage Meets the American West

How We Designed the Blixt Tweed

By Jen Magnusson

Long before synthetic camouflage existed, tweed was doing the same job. Woven in muted, mottled colors pulled straight from the hillsides and moors it was made for, a good tweed breaks up a silhouette in exactly the terrain it was designed for — which is precisely why it’s still what serious shooters wear on a driven day, more than a century later

When we started to design the Blixt Tweed, that history was where we began.  A pattern that reads as unmistakably ours, in colors drawn from our landscape and the shoots,  that still does the traditional job a field tweed has always done.

“ Our tweed, indeed reflects our place. .The American West, and in particular, Teton Valley. A unique mix of agricultural fields and the native sagebrush. Our tweed reflects both. A dusty blue green fills the background of our tweed, but laying overtop is the unmistakable gold of the sweeping fields of wheat and barley. The seasons are also reflected, with the crisp blue of our big skies, and the white line of our snow capped peaks. Dark green of our thick pine forests contrasts against the bright spring green of the quaking aspen in the spring.”

Lovat Mills in Scotland has been a collaborator with Blixt & Co and renowned tailor Leonard Logsdail since 2010, when they collaborated for a line of custom hunting clothing. Lovat Mill and Leonard guided us through the process. They took our seasonal reflections on the land of Eastern Idaho and and translated it into the perfect reflection of Blixt & Co, our place in the Rocky Moutain West, nestled between the ag land of Idaho and the Yellowstone Ecosystem. At last the Blixt Tweed was real.

Heritage isn’t just history—it’s a living philosophy that shapes every decision we make. As it tradition, only those who work for Blixt & Co can wear the tweed.
