High Birds in the American West

New Shoot: Ash Hill

New Shoot: Ash Hill

When we started Blixt & Company it was our dream and goal to bring true driven shooting to the States. It is now almost 10 years ago, and I must say that we are well on the way in fulfilling this dream.

Over the past decade we have been involved in building three shoots in the general vicinity of Teton Valley, Idaho. For those that has been shooting with us knows what a special valley it is. The picture perfect vistas, that is hard not to fall in love with. It is the place where the pristine Idaho farm land meets the Teton Mountain Range, with grand views and where blue ribbon waters meanders though the valley bottom. It is a sportsman’s delight and a place we love to share with anyone willing to participate.

For years American sportsmen and women has traveled over to the British Isles to participate in driven shoots, for grouse, partridge and pheasants. There are always places you fall in love with and places that challenge you in different ways. Most of the time when you hear about high bird shooting, North Yorkshire, Wales and the West Country is mentioned. There are many other places worth mentioning, and we all have our own special place we like to go back to. I believe that in large for us that love driven shooting, it is the challenge that a place or a shoot presents that engages us and this is what brings us back, and back again.

This is why I’m so excited to be able to announce that a new chapter will start this coming fall. We are in the process of building another driven shoot in the northern end of Teton Valley. Blixt & Company will be offering a true High Bird Shoot here in the United States. Ash Hill, which is the name of the new shoot, has the perfect topography for a great day in the field. The shoot will be able to challenge every level of shooter and we believe it will become one of those places where our guests would like to revisit over and over again.

The work is well under way, and as we still have a bit of snow in the valleys, we are currently working on preparing the new lunch spot. As soon as the snow breaks, we will start the habitat work, and preparing the three deep valley’s and the development of 18 new drives that will range from modest to very challenging.

Ash Hill will be offering a mixed bag of red-legged partridge and pheasants. Each shoot day will be offered with an unlimited bag and 6 drives will be presented to the guns. A personal loader will look after each gun, and elevenses and lunch will be offered and prepared on sight. Lodging will take place in Teton Valley, and most of our shoots will be a combination between our partridge shoot Twin Peaks and our new offering Ash Hill.

If you enjoy driven shooting, challenge and if you wish to stay a little bit closer to home, this is a fantastic opportunity to participate in the sport that you love. For more information and available dates please follow the link below.
